Medical Contacts & Other Resources

For lots more medical and other resources, see also the resources listing set up by our good friends at the Zoe Belle Gender Centre gendercentre.com (you will be leaving this site).

TransGender Victoria respects the right of all people to affirm their gender identity. This right, however, must be considered in conjunction with the need to receive qualified medical advice in, especially in relation to the issues of hormones and surgery

Whilst there is debate in the trans and associated communities about the guidelines which are best around surgery, it is a major action with real medical risks, such as, in the case of F2Ms, a fistula (inadvertent breach of the colon during reassignment surgery), surgery not achieving the desired results, or post-surgery complications. It is recommended that you approach any surgery with the same caution you would to ANY major medical procedure. This is particularly so if you choose to travel overseas for surgery, where issues around different legal systems and different customs need also to be taken into consideration.

We also ask people to strongly consider, in relation to the use and supply of hormones the
