TRANS DEDUCTIBLE: NEW ERA FOR TRANSGENDER COMMUNITY IN VICTORIA
The achievement of Deductible Gift Recipient (tax deductible) status by Transgender Victoria has ushered in a new era for Victoria’s transgender people.
“To have the ability to raise funds will help us achieve the ëequityí part of our mission far more than previously,” stated spokesperson Sally Goldner.
“Individuals and businesses will be able to donate $2 or more to a transgender- specific cause and receive a tax deduction. Equally, this gives us obvious advantages in applying for funding from charitable trusts requiring that the recipient of the grant has DGR status.”
“It is also excellent timing given the focus of Victoriaís transgender community on permanent premises to offer services including counselling and referral. Given the high risk of suicide for transgender people, we believe the establishment of such services as vital.”
