‘What makes an Ally?’ Project Launch

International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT) celebrations in Wyndham City will host the official launch of a Victorian Government funded youth project.

The City of Wyndham Council and Mayor Cr Bob Fairclough, in partnership with Transgender Victoria (TGV), and YGender will officially launch the beginning of ‘What makes an Ally?’

Members of the community are invited to join Transgender Victoria, YGender, Safe Schools Coalition Victoria, Wyndham City, Beyond Blue, Mind Australia and other service providers to support the GLBTIQ community to celebrate the beginning of this wonderful project.

Date: Friday May 16th 2014
Time: 1pm – 3pm
Where: Wyndham City Civic Centre, 45 Princes Hwy, Werribee.

Proceedings: Refreshments will be served from 1.30pm. Mayor Cr Bob Fairclough will officially address the community at 2.30pm with the event concluding with the raising of the rainbow flag. This is a free event.

‘What makes an Ally?’ is a HEY Grant community development project funded by the Department of Health. HEY Grants are part of larger Victorian Government funded initiative to support the mental health and wellbeing of Same Sex Attracted and Sex and Gender Diverse Young People.

‘What makes an Ally?’ seeks to engage young people across Victoria in regional and urban areas to participate in creating a print and web based campaign that fosters healthy relationships between trans* and gender diverse young people and their allies.

Transgender Victoria and YGender will work with local government, youth mental health services, secondary schools, anti bullying organisations and community organisations to enable young people to take a lead role in developing the project.
