Submission to (Federal) HREOC enquiry

HREOC (the Federal body, seperate from the Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission) have called for submissions to Federal law.


This is long overdue. All states and territories have equal opportunity law protecting trans people (albeit some laws give greater coverage than others). The Federal arena is the only jurisdiction with nothing. This ust chage – yesterday.

The submission gives a summary of the state of play in relation to Federal issues for transgender people ,with particular focus on medical and documentation issues.

Transgender Victoria (TGV) was founded in the late 1990s to achieve justice, equity and quality health and community service provision for trans and gender diverse (TGD) people, their partners, families and friends.

TGV uses TGD to refer to people whose gender identity or expression is different from that which was assigned at birth or that which is expected of them by society.
