Ask your questions at Melbourne Election forum
The Victorian Gay & Lesbian Rights Lobby, in partnership with Transgender Victoria and Organisation Intersex International (OII) Australia are hosting the pre-election talks.
The Forum will be hosted by one of Australia’s most exciting comedians Toby Halligan and held at DnM Bar on Commercial Road. Attorney-General Mark Dreyfus, Coalition MP Kelly O’Dwyer and Greens Deputy Leader Adam Bandt will each be on hand to state their respective parties’ positions on LGBTI issues and respond to the community’s questions.
“Being fully informed on issues that matter to you is an important part of democracy,” says VGLRL Convener Anna Brown.
Members of the LGBTI community can nominate a question to be asked of any or all of the three party representatives at the forum by clicking here.
The forum builds on the 12 topic, 42 question election survey sent last week by VGLRL to the three major parties, who were asked to provide a single response on behalf of the organisation to each of the questions involving:
Equality/Anti-Discrimination
Relationships Recognition/Marriage Equality
International/Foreign Affairs
Health, including HIV
Ageing
LGBTI Data and Research
Families/Parenting
Trans* and Gender Diverse Issues
Intersex Issues
Immigration/Refugees
Schools/Youth
Self-Determination And Participation In Decision-Making
“Along with the survey results, this forum will ensure voters are clear on the major parties’ positions on a range of issues affecting lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex people,” says Brown.
Responses to the survey by the three parties will be uploaded to the VGLRL website when they become available over the coming week. Once all responses are received they will be collated and assessed to indicate if the parties fully support, partially support, don’t support or didn’t answer the questions presented.
