Transgender Victoria respects the right of all people to affirm their gender identity. This right, however, must be considered in conjunction with the need to receive qualified medical advice in, especially in relation to the issues of hormones and surgery.

Whilst there is debate in the trans and associated communities about the guidelines which are best around surgery, it is a major action with real medical risks, such as surgery not achieving the desired results or post-surgery complications.

We also ask people to strongly consider, in relation to the use and supply of hormones the Drugs, Poisons and Controlled Substances Act 1981
